Transform Parts and Welds

Within the “Workspace” you can transform (move and/or rotate) both assemblies and weld groups in the same way. Select one or more assemblies or weld groups in the “Workspace” view, right click and select “Translate / rotate…”:

Right click and select translate / rotate

The transform dialogue will display as seen below. At the top, you’ll see the two options move and Set Origin.

Moving Items

While move is selected, you’ll be able to adjust the positioning of the selected items. You can modify the position of the selected items by typing directly in the dialog, or you can use the manipulator in the 3D viewer to reposition/rotate items. If the “snap” button is toggled in, movement will be limited to configurable steps. The translation and rotation is relative to the work station origin.

Next to the rotation fields you can click the rotate 90° buttons to quickly rotate around an axis. You can also click on the calculator button to pop up a calculator to easily transform between different rotation angle conventions.

At the bottom of the dialogue is the Pick from View options. These options allow you to select a specific transform you wish to perform on the selected items. Once an option is selected you can use your mouse to preview different transforms in the viewer before clicking to apply the transform. The options are:

Transform Option

Description

Position

Move the selected items in the viewer to a point you click on while maintaining the currently rotation.

X Direction

Rotate the selected items so the X axis aligns with the surface you click on.

Y Direction

Rotate the selected items so the Y axis aligns with the surface you click on.

Z Direction

Rotate the selected items so the Z axis aligns with the surface you click on.

Setting the Origin

The other option at the top of the transform dialogue is Set Origin, selecting this allows you to specify a new origin for the currently selected items without moving them. This feature is useful for quickly realigning parts that import misaligned with the workcell. Once an origin has been aligned with a part, you can use the Move function to move the part itself.

You can specify this origin exactly using the translation and rotation options, using the viewer to move the origin manually, or by using the Pick from View options at the bottom of the dialogue box.

For the Set Origin function, the Pick from View options do the following:

Transform Option

Description

Position

Reposition the origin of the current item to the position of the feature* selected in the viewer.

X Direction

Align the x-axis of the current item’s origin with the x-axis of the item selected in the viewer.

Y Direction

Align the x-axis of the current item’s origin with the y-axis of the item selected in the viewer.

Z Direction

Align the x-axis of the current item’s origin with the z-axis of the item selected in the viewer.

*When using the Set Origin feature, the position option only allows for repositioning the origin to a feature and not to any isolated point.
